COMPARATIVES HELP US TO COMPARE TWO THINGS
COMPARATIVE RULES
A) one syllable adjetives generally from its comaprative by
adding -er to the adjective: e.g. soft - soft er , cheap - cheaper, sweet -
sweeter.
B) if one syllable is followed by a single consonant - vowel
- consonant, the last consonant is doubled: e.g. hot - hotter, thin - thinner,
big - bigger.
C) if the adjetive ends in e, simply add r, e.g. nice -
nicer, wide - wider.
D) if one or two adjective ends whit a y, replace the -y by
-i, when adding er. e.g.
E) two syllable adjectives ending whith -ed, -ing, -ful, or
less, forms its comparative by adding more + adjective e.g. tired - more
tired, helpful - more helpful, useless -
more useless, boring - more boring.
F) irregular adjectives are: good - better, bad - worse, far
- father/futher.
G) adjectives that have more than three of four syllables
always form the adjrctive with more e.g. dangerous - more dangerous,
intelligent - more intellingent.
